Inconel 718 Forgings Manufacturer, Supplier

Inconel 718, also called as UNS N07718, is a nickel-based superalloy comprised mostly of nickel and chromium. Made of about 55% nickel and between 17-21% chromium, this metal is renowned for its impressive strength and performance. This grade also includes other elements such as niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, manganese, aluminium, titanium, silicon, copper and more, contributing about 4.75 to 5.5%.

At Robust Special Metals, we’ve built a strong reputation as leading Inconel 718 forgings suppliers and manufacturers over the years. We take immense pride in our custom-made Inconel 718 rings and bush, designed with meticulous precision for optimal performance across various applications.

Our UNS N07718 forgings stand out with their remarkable mechanical strength. They can be moulded into bars, blocks, discs, and stepped shafts. These products offer good surface stability and resistance to thermal creep deformation. Forging Inconel 718 typically involves heating it to 2050ºF (1120ºC), resulting in finished products that resist environmental corrosion superbly, even when exposed to oxygen and seawater for long periods.

The heat treatment process is a key step for Inco 718 forgings. It’s a complex cycle at specific temperatures to achieve the best tensile and stress rupture properties. Typically, this involves heating for an hour at 1750/1800ºF (955/980ºC), air cooling, then holding at 1325ºF (720ºC) for 8 hours before gradually cooling down. Different cycles are recommended depending on whether you want ideal room temperature or cryogenic tensile properties.

Machining Inconel 718 is straightforward in both annealed and age-hardened conditions. The age-hardened state produces a superior surface finish, while the annealed condition contributes to longer tool life. Welding Inconel 718 is possible in both aged and annealed states, though welding an age-hardened material may cause a softened heat-affected zone.

Inconel 718 has a broad range of applications. It’s used in cars, jet engines, fuel lines, 3D printing and die casting. This superalloy is also commonly used in nuclear fuel parts, high-temperature bolts, fasteners, buckets, and spacers. Inconel 718’s high fatigue strength and creeping resistance are particularly valuable for marine turbine engines and aerospace applications.

With a melting point that supports its use in high-temperature scenarios and a density that aligns with the AMS 5662 standard, Inconel 718 is preferred for many industries. It also meets ASTM B637 standards, making it perfect for castings.
