Alloy 28 Forging

Forging alloy 28 is a process that uses heat & pressure to shape and form the metal. This allows for creating components with specific dimensions, desired strength, & mechanical properties. The recommended forging temperature for Alloy 28 ranges from 1200 – 2150°F, with the typical range falling between 1850 – 2000°F to achieve optimal results.

During heat treatment, Alloy 28 should be solution annealed at 2100–2250 °F for 30 minutes per inch of thickness, followed by rapid water quenching.

Machining of alloy 28 can be accomplished with conventional methods, but due to its toughness and hardness, carbide tooling is recommended.

Welding of Alloy 28 requires preheat & post-weld heat treatment to ensure corrosion resistance is not compromised.
